Sr. Systems Engineer, 5G

The Sensor Processing Division has an opening for a systems engineer to provide systems engineering support across several contracted efforts including a focus on 5G projects. This is a mid-level cross-functional engineering position, supporting the development of our sensor processing systems. The Sensor Processing Division supports a wide array of customers providing analytics and processing solutions for sensor data and sense making.

Job Description 
The Senior Systems Engineer / 5G is responsible for: 

  • Research market and customer requirements around 4G and 5G wireless to feed into solution architecture and corresponding product requirements. 

  • Apply knowledge of wireless Standards/Organizations: 3GPP, IETF, ONAP, LTE, 5G NR and 802.11 protocols for specific projects 

  • Conduct requirements generation and analysis based on user influenced concepts of operations and other user engagements 

  • Develop and define systems architecture to support mission needs and consistent with requirements including user components, ground-based and space-based 5G infrastructure. 

  • Prepare systems architecture documents associated with software, sensors, data source evaluation and uses. 

  • Design and develop processing laboratory to support requirements and architecture analysis 

  • Support customer engagements to better understand user concepts of operations and use cases. 

  • Document project status, conduct analytics, and write reports. 

  • Conduct integration status meetings with partners, customers and internal teams as needed. 

Job Requirements 

  • Strong technical knowledge of LTE/VoLTE and 5G technologies including NAS signaling and PHY/MAC/RLC/PDCP/RRC layers of the LTE and 5G NR protocol stacks. 

  • Solid understanding of RF fundamentals, all technical problems in the LTE and 5G NR air interfaces, and data network protocols. 

  • Experience with wireless infrastructure provider and/or network operator  

  • Ability to apply systems engineering processes in support of system life cycle development 

  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively to coordinate systems engineering activities and report status. 

  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with customers, internal and external suppliers, as well as horizontal integrations across the other teams. 

Desired Qualifications 

  • MIMO, 3GPP 5G NR standard 

  • Experience with military systems and interacting with military Customers 

  • Cybersecurity experience 

Education and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering; Master’s Degree or Ph. D. degree a plus 

  • Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Engineering: 5+ years for LTE and 5G 

  • Demonstrated research and problem-solving skills via prior work experience 

Clearance – Active or Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret clearance.
